Ms. Selma Masood 馬秀雯律師
Selma qualified as a Solicitor in Hong Kong in 2006. Prior to joining Ho Tse Wai & Partners as a Consultant, she was the Principal of SM & Co Solicitors in association with Gianni & Origoni for 9 years. Prior to that, she worked for various international law firms in Hong Kong, as well as being a Partner in a local firm. She is experienced in advising and handling contentious commercial disputes as well as commercial transactions, with her main practice areas being Litigation (Commercial & Civil); Company & Commercial Law; Cross Border Disputes; Mergers & Acquisitions, Mediation and Arbitration.
Selma graduated from the University of Manchester with a Bachelor of Music Degree and Bachelor of Law degree, as well as the University of Hong Kong for the Post Graduate Certificate of Laws. She has also attained the Associate Trinity College London and Licentiate Trinity College London for piano performance and teaching. She is a Solicitor on the General Panel of Mediators in Hong Kong (HKIAC) and a Solicitor on the Legal Aid Panel. Selma also had a stint in the Hong Kong Judiciary, sitting as a Deputy Magistrate at Eastern Magistracy for two months between January and March 2019. She also sits on the International Commercial Disputes Tribunal.
Selma has always been a very active person and has many hobbies, including music (she plays the piano, flute, cello and Chinese zither and has performed on countless occasions when she was in primary and secondary school including her school’s choir, orchestra and chamber ensembles, she has won numerous prizes at the Hong Kong Music Festival and was the principal flautist for the prestigious Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, she was also twice the runner-up to the South China Morning Post Student Musician of the Year Award), participating in a variety of sports and competitions such as dragon boating, F45, Hyrox, boxing (she has fought in 4 White Collar Charity Boxing Fights, spanning two continents, winning 3 fights, a Title Belt and she became the highest charity fund raiser in the history of White Collar Boxing, raising over GBP50,000), cooking and giving back to the community through various charitable means. She is also an avid linguist and speaks 7 languages.
Selma has been a Women in Law mentor and is frequently asked to speak for the Women’s Leadership Networking Committee and Italian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, as well as the University of Manchester and various women empowerment private clubs across the globe. She has been a Ted x HKU speaker in Hong Kong in 2020 and a Ted x Manchester speaker in Manchester in 2024.
